CALL TO ORDER:

The meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m. by the Board President, Mrs. Henry.

 

 

CLOSED SESSION:

There was no early closed session.

 

 

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:  (II)

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was given.

 

 

PUBLIC COMMUNICATION TO THE BOARD:  (III-A)

 

None.

 

 

PRESENTATION ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:  (IV-A)

Dr. Plutko outlined the presentations for this evening, one on Student Achievement Data, to be presented by Ms Marlene Kline; and the Action Plan for Student Achievement by Dr. Connie Mayhugh.  Dr. Don Austin presented district information on U.C. eligibility.  The second part was a presentation by Jay Westover of InnovateED entitled, “Closing the Gaps of College & Career Readiness.”  This 25-30 minute presentation would give a broad picture of “common core” or “college career readiness” and what it means to our district.

 

Dr. Plutko summarized the recent speech by President Obama and his plan for relief from the No Child Left Behind Act.

 

Dr. Don Austin introduced Marlene Kline, Coordinator of Assessment & Evaluation, who reviewed the district’s Adequate Yearly Progress data.  Dr. Connie Mayhugh, Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Categorical Programs, reviewed Program Improvement and identified the actions needed.

 

Dr. Austin reviewed College & Career Readiness data.

 

Board members asked questions throughout the presentations.

 

 

 

RECESS:

A recess was called from 7:32 to 7:42 p.m.

 

 

 

CLOSING THE GAP OF COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS:

Dr. Plutko introduced Jay Westover of InnovateED, one of the foremost experts in college and career readiness, who asked, “how do we define what a college and career student looks like?  He reviewed eight key factors for college and career readiness, and presented data on his Four Year Plan, Focus and Action Steps.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:  (V)

Debbie Coleman reminded Board members about the Health Fair to be held the following day at Marina High School.

Steve Mason, parent, commented on the Action Plan presentation.

 

 

RECESS TO CLOSED SESSION:

The Board recessed to Closed Session at 8:35 p.m. to consider Public Employee Appointment/Assignment/ Reassignment/ Discipline/Dismissal/Release – Government Code section 54957 and Education Code sections 44896 and 44951.  In attendance was Dr. Greg Plutko.

The meeting was called back to order at 9:40 p.m.  Mrs. Henry announced that no action was taken.
