| CALL TO ORDER: | The meeting was called to order at 2:34 p.m. by the President, Mrs. Henry. |
| CLOSED SESSION (I) | The Board recessed to Closed Session to discuss Personnel Matters pursuant to Government Code section 54957. |
| CALL BACK TO ORDER: | The meeting was called back to order at 3:04 p.m. by the President, Mrs. Henry, who announced there was nothing to report out of Closed Session. |
| Interviewing of Consultants for Superintendent Search: | The Board interviewed the first of three search
consultant companies for the Superintendent Search to replace Dr. Susan
Roper who will be retiring at the end of June 2003. The first was Leadership Associates, represented by Dr. Harry Weinberg and Dr. Rene Townsend. Leadership Associates made a presentation. Board members asked questions. |
| RECESS: | The meeting was recessed from 3:55 to 4:05 p.m. |
| The second group to be interviewed was the California School Board Association Executive Search Services represented by Richard Loveall and Dr. Cynthia Grennan. Executive Search Services gave a presentation and Board members asked questions. | |
| RECESS: | The meeting was recessed from 4:50 to 5 p.m. |
| The final group to be interviewed was The Cosca Group, represented by Dr. Frank Cosca and Dr. Leonard Murdy. The Cosca Group gave a presentation and Board members asked questions. | |
| At 5:52 p.m., following the third interview,
Board members discussed the merits of each group. It was agreed that all
were exceptional candidates and any one could have performed the search.
However, all members generally agreed that Leadership Associates was the
best match for this district’s search. It was moved by Ms Castrey, seconded by Mr. Garland, to retain Leadership Associates for the Superintendent Search, and to agendize for action at the February 11, 2003 Board meeting. Motion unanimously carried. |

| Board members discussed the timeline for the
process. It was agreed that the Board would meet with Leadership Associates
on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 8 a.m. for one hour. Monday, March 3, 2003
was set aside for Dr. Weinberg to allow selected staff and community to
provide input. April 14 or 15 was tentatively scheduled for a four hour meeting to select finalists. Final interviews will be held all day on Monday, April 21, 2003, with the site visit scheduled for the week of May 5, 2003. If this is not possible, interviews could take place on May 1/2, 2003 or this/these dates could be used for the site visit fall back. |
