CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:39 p.m. by the President, Mrs. Henry.
CLOSED SESSION  (I) There was no closed session.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: (II) The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Kathy Iverson.
PUBLIC COMMUNICATION TO THE BOARD: (III-A) There was no public communication to the Board.
PROPOSED BUDGET REDUCTIONS: (IV-A) Opportunity was provided for public response to the Superintendent’s Proposed Budget Reductions which were presented at the April 22, 2003 Special Board meeting. The following people spoke regarding budget cuts: Jim Burch, President of DEA; Kathy Iverson, teacher; Mark Soden, CSEA Negotiations Chairman, Chapter 157; Carole Maken and Dave Tuttle, teachers; Joan Elliott, psychologist; Corinne Neal, teacher; Paul Qaqundah, parent; Carol Strausburg, Nathan Matza and Mike Henigan, teachers; Alma Herman; psychologist; Joe Cache and Bill Been, staff members; Topper Horack, Sherry Card and Lee Saviers, teachers; Jeff Hyder and Eric Ekberg, parents; Herman Harvill, teacher; Larry Duncan, staff member; Lee Yadrick, parent; Jim Houghton, staff member; Virginia Gruwell and Rose Molina, teachers.
RECESS: A recess was called from 9:02 p.m. to 9:20 p.m.
PROPOSED BUDGET REDUCTIONS: (IV-A) Continued Michelle Twisselman, teacher; Brian Jenzer, Michael Jorgensen, Ryan Carson, Tom Imparato, Amaris Cuellor, Brian Paullins, Baylee Masterson, David Stewart, Andrew Hatfield and Carole Som, students; Josh Anderson, teacher; Marty Axelson, Rob Bachmann, parents; Bruce Belcher, teacher; Carol Beutler, Tim Bonney, Ashley Camarena, parents; Mike Collins, teacher; Christi Crumpton, Mike Debowski and Steve Diaz, parents; Bob Dreifus, Zoran Forgiarini and Cathy Lichodziejewski, teachers; Kim Maytubby, parent; Kris McCulloch, staff member; Linda Mihalik, Peter Minko, Wayne Palica, William Roth, Julie Sebrasky, Bill Semler, parents; Diane Shirey, teacher; Kathryn Sonne, parent; and Paul Tabony, and spoke regarding the proposed budget cuts.
MOTION TO CONTINUE At 11 p.m. it was moved by Ms Castrey, seconded by Mr. Harper, to continue the meeting until 11:15 p.m.

Motion unanimously carried.

PROPOSED BUDGET REDUCTIONS: (IV-A) Continued Paul Tappy, staff member, spoke regarding proposed budget cuts.
NEW BUSINESS: (V) Mr. Harper indicated that it was important to hear the input and that everyone generally had been very respectful.

Ms Castrey stated she had a number of questions for Superintendent and Cabinet.

Dr. Simons thanked the public for keeping to the time limit and said that their input is taken very seriously.

Mr. Garland commented that the fact that so many people had attended the meeting and addressed the Board was a reflection of how much they cared for their programs.

Mrs. Henry echoed Mr. Garland’s comments. She also congratulated Fountain Valley High School on receiving recognition as a California Distinguished School and announced that they will be honored in a ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel on May 16, 2003.

Dr. Roper offered congratulations to Dr. Kathy Miller on earning her doctorate degree.

ANY OTHER PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: (VI) David Ngo, student, Jason Kols, teacher, and Ryoko Oda, parent, spoke regarding proposed budget cuts.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 11:08 p.m.
