ECS CONVERSION NEWS  October 10, 2010  9:45 PM

We are now live with the new system.  Most of the ECS functions were duplicated and copied into SB2000 Classroom and the Parent/Student Portal the weekend of October 9-10, 2010.  Although the ECS system is still operational, it should not be used for the functions that have been moved to the new systems.  After reading the information below, please direct any questions about this change to HBUHSD Information Services via email at NewSB2KCR@hbuhsd.org.

Teachers with sections must now update their profile pages, sub pages*, assignments and calendar entries in SB2000 Classroom (using the Manage menu item).  If they use Easy Grade Pro they must now import progress grades from EGP into the Parent/Student Portal via SB2000 Classroom (not ECS). The export process from Easy Grade Pro now requires the use of the XML format instead of the Basmati format.  Period-by-period training for teachers is being coordinated by the school Technology Resource Teachers and is planned for October 11 and 12.  Parent / Student Portal progress grades need to be reloaded as soon as possible using the new procedures since that data was not copied during the conversion activities.

Additional conversion activities will be needed for a small number of staff members who use embedded links, which contain "ECS" in the URL, in their assignments and profile sub pages.  We will contact those involved later this week with further instructions about those links. For now, since ECS is still operational, those links will continue to work.

WebMasters must review links on their school web pages that link to the ECS system.  Some of those need to be changed as soon as possible.  The Staff Directory link is a good example. Since the ECS system is still operational, school web page links will still work if they point to ECS but they will be looking at the old system which will not be updated as changes are made in the new system.

Non-instructional users who have ECS profile pages, sub pages* and calendars, must now edit those items through the Parent/Student Portal. These are the profiles, not associated with classroom sections, used by administrators, classified staff, departments, sports teams, school-related organizations, etc. Instead of logging into the ECS system, these users will log in at https://psportal.hbuhsd.org using their ECS username and password with slight modifications.  The appropriate school's initials must now precede both the User ID and password.  For example, if you logged into FVHS's ECS system as boysbaseball using the password slider, you now need to login to the Parent/Student Portal with the User ID fvhsboysbaseball and password fvhsslider.  The proper school initial prefixes are: hbhs, whs, mhs, fvhs, ehs, ovhs, vvhs (that's a v and a v for Valley Vista) and chs.     Profile updating instructions posted 10/28/2010 at 4:40 PM.   More on Directory Profiles.

If you have tried the instructions immediately above in the green link, and still need more help, please contact Wray Miller  714.903.7000 x4101.

School ECS or ECS "esque" functions that will remain unchanged are the:

Support Ticket System
School Staff Portals  (school must maintain ECS user file to support this feature)
Alumni database
Job Bank  (will be discontinued)
Student Project Center
FuseTalk Forums

*  Your picture, if you had one on your sub page, was not copied over in the conversion.  A quick way to get your current ECS profile picture into the new profile is to look up your old ECS profile and right click on the picture to save it to your desktop. Then edit your profile in the new system and import it from your desktop (or wherever you saved it)  into the new system. The Old ECS Staff Directory links in the table below will help you with this.

New school directories on Parent/Student Portal.
Non-instructional profiles are now found in the second half of the directory.
