is the Business Academy?

| The
Business Academy is a program designed to prepare you for the workplace
of the 21st century and college entrance. |
| Why
do I need parent permission? |
| You
and your parents are both needed to ensure your success. You both
must understand all the Academy requirements and be willing to fulfill
them. |
| Who
is eligible? |
| All
students in the Huntington Beach Union High School District (and other
districts without Business Academies) who are interested in the fields
of Business and computers, who have a desire to improve, and who are
willing to devote time and energy to that improvement. |
| Why
should I get involved in the Academy? |
| There
are a lot of reasons, but the most important one is that your future
starts today--you are in control. Will your life include a successful
high school experience, college, and a successful work career? The
world is changing rapidly; will you be ready? High school is the time
to begin preparing for the 21st century and beyond. Make the most
of your time--be a Business Academy student--gain an edge. |
| Is
the Academy more difficult? |
| Yes.
In addition to normal requirements for graduation, the Business Academy
demands a schedule of classes with a business and computer focus,
involvement in Academy activities on campus, selected college classes,
a mentor experience, approved internship, approved work experience,
a portfolio, and community service. The Academy student must be positive,
dedicated and motivated. |
| What
is a intern experience? |
| The
student intern volunteers to observe and possibly participate in a
business during their junior year in high school. |
| What
is a mentor experience? |
| Students
will be assigned an adult from the business professional workplace.
The Mentor will help their mentee investigate careers. |

What
is a workplace experience?
|
| Senior
Academy students are expected to work 300 or more hours in a paid
position in business. |
