IS THE PURPOSE OF A MENTOR PROGRAM? |
| To
show students the real world applicability of their studies. To help
students create the link between school and their future jobs and
careers. |

WHAT
IS A MENTOR?
|
| A
mentor is a guide for the student. The mentor listens to their student,
answers questions, shares information that the mentor wishes someone
had told them in high school. A mentor wants to help their mentee
reach their current and future goals. Mentors do not get paid to be
mentors. |
| WHY
DOES A BUSINESS PERSON BECOME A MENTOR? |
| The
mentor is a good person who believes in students and wants to help
them succeed. The mentor is a qualified, committed business person
who has learned important things in life and wants to pass these on
to their mentee. Mentors are people who care and prove it by offering
their time and wisdom to a Business Academy student. |
| HOW
MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE TO BE A MENTOR? |
| Usually
one to two hours per month. |
| WHAT
KIND OF ACTIVITIES ARE INVOLVED IN A MENTORSHIP? |
| The
activities are quite varied. Listening, encouraging, and helping their
student in person or on the phone. Job shadowing, attending school
sponsored events could be activities that the mentor and mentee enjoy
together. There will also be some formal meetings at school where
the mentors and their mentees participate. |
| WHAT
IS THE PROCEDURE IN BECOMING A MENTOR? |
Once
you decide to apply to become a mentor you will fill out a couple
of forms, and receive a mentor orientation sheet. You will be contacted
as to the date and time of the Mentor
